Spilled Paint

Using Powerpoint, I created a review game for color theory. Using technological tools like Powerpoint can be a creative and interactive way to engage student learning. The theme I chose was: Spilled Paint. In the review game each student is motivated to answer the questions correctly to gather the supplies they need to finish their masterpiece painting. I was able to gather a multitude of great images that related to my theme well, I did have some difficulty finding and downloading sound effects that were short enough and age appropriate.

Website

https://sites.google.com/site/virtualartistonlineclassroom/

I had a lot of fun designing a classroom website. I think using a classroom website can be a simple way to communicate with students and parents. Not only is a website a great way to keep in contact with students, but it can act as a resource hub for enrichment assignments and engaging activities. I am definitely interested in incorporating a class website for my future students.

Technology in Schools

One to One Programs in Shcools
In Support?   Percentage Rounded Percentage
Yes 16 84.2% 84.0%
No 3 15.8% 16.0%
Total 19
Because the world is constantly evolving, I decided to research the thoughts of individuals towards technology in the classroom. I created a survey composed of seven thoughtful questions. The first two questions were demographic regarding gender and age, while the remaining five examined the use and familiarity with technology as well as thoughts towards technology in schools. Technology has become the environment for the average American; with this survey my intent was to gather information as to whether or not the community believes that educating students in technology is an important aspect in education.

This concept map is designed to outline a specific art movement, Pop Art. I would use this concept map when introducing the pop art movement. I think having this type of visual aid and reference can be beneficial for students in a variety of ways. As the teacher I would use this to introduce a topic, movement, or theme; however, students could use this tool in several different ways. Each student could be assigned a specific work of art on the concept map to research and share with the class, students could work in groups to fill in artists or titles of artwork that would be left blank, or the concept map could be used as a study guide. I think that this type of concept map works extremely well with art history. I would like to create a simple outline of each artistic genre, students could then use them as a timeline, study guide, or even an in-class activity to organize the concept maps in the correct order. Not only does the concept map function as a student resource, but it allows for students to physically see several pieces of artwork from the same artistic movement side by side. This enable class discussion and critique of the similarities and differences between the different works of art.

Project One

Because this was a first experience for me, I found this assignment both challenging and exciting. I never imagined how time consuming a technology based worksheet could be. I had a lot of difficulty finding websites that were both engaging and age appropriate. Many of the websites I encountered were either overly loquacious or geared towards elementary aged students. In the end I think I was able to achieve a happy balance of academic content and engaging delivery. This was an enlightening assignment and quite enjoyable. I have a real passion for the arts and having the opportunity to be able to educate students in my area is quite gratifying. Finding new and exciting ways to instruct students can be beneficial for both teacher and student, incorporating technology into assignments can be a great way to achieve engagement.
